Help & Support

1. How much will my fluency improve?

According to studies, this method can increase your speech fluency by 60–90%.

To maximize the effectiveness, use the app properly and incorporate speech techniques recommended by a speech-language pathologist.

2. How do I use the app?

When you first open the app, everything will be set up for immediate use.

Simply connect your headphones to your mobile phone, turn ON the app, and start speaking. You will notice a changed perception of your speech which can lead to an increase in speech fluency.

Important: Do not forget to test the latency of your headphones to ensure an accurate and precise output delay. You can test it during the onboarding process or later by pressing "Test the latency" in the side menu.

Also, make sure the sound in your headphones is sufficiently loud for your brain to clearly perceive the sound. However, be cautious not to make the sound too loud and risk damaging your hearing.

3. Which parameter settings are appropriate for me?

We recommend always using both delay modules (Delay 1 and Delay 2) with a fixed delay interval of 100 ms (100 ms Lock button). The common combination is 75 ms and 175 ms, but feel free to adjust the delay in milliseconds to suit your preference.

Do not forget to activate Delay 2, fixed at an interval of +100 ms compared to Delay 1.

You can also experiment with Delay 2 settings, but we suggest staying within a +50 ms to +150 ms range.

For adults who stutter, it is recommended to use the LPF (Low Pass Filter) at 300 Hz and HPF (High Pass Filter) at 2400 Hz. For children, use LPF at 600 Hz and HPF at 4800 Hz. Feel free to experiment and find what works best.

4. Any additional tips?

5. What is the theory behind this method?

The SPEECHROUTE app is based on the Verbotonal method, which separates low- and high-frequency speech signals for better speech perception.

High-frequency signals are slightly delayed to improve speech intelligibility, recalibrating neural processes and significantly enhancing speech fluency.

6. Can I use Bluetooth headphones?

Standard Bluetooth headphones often have too much latency (120–250 ms), which is not ideal for this method. Some low-latency Bluetooth headphones may work—test latency in the app before use.

7. How to use the app within speech therapy for children?

The app can be very beneficial in children's stuttering therapy. Always consult a speech-language pathologist to ensure proper and effective usage tailored to your child.
